Jagran was founded by Aloke Roy, a painter who was challenged to find a medium that could break through the language barrier to communicate the need for family planning in villages all over India.

Today the non- governmental organization has its office and rehearsal studio in Delhi. It is actively running a training programme where it teaches its form of Pantomime theatre to young people coming from the slums and the re-settlement colonies of Delhi. It performs, develops and designs new plays for its Target audience in these areas.

Jagran has had various performing tours in India and abroad to participate in popular theatre and mime festivals. In India it has performed in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, U.P, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana.

It has also performed in England, France, Australia, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Canada, Holland and Malaysia.

Jagran today is widening its scope by extending its expertise in video and visual arts to further transcend the geographical barriers of the world.
